The Scorpion. Animals have many indicative features similar to Army formation and unit capabilities, the scorpion has been identified as the one that best represents the DRS – as a new capability and a new system. Scorpions are remarkably robust and have adapted to live (or operate) in a wide range of environmental conditions from the jungle to the desert.

Some scorpion species are ‘sit-and-wait’ predators, waiting for prey at or near the entrance to their burrow using stealth and guile and a detailed understanding of their environment, whilst other species will seek and hunt. Furthermore, the scorpion uses their claws to restrain (or fix) their prey and have also been known to kill or maim with them – it is however their venomous sting that is mainly used to kill or paralyse their prey. The comparison with the DRS’ capabilities is evident.

The above was selected as the most representative of the new formation. The subdued colouring provides a modern and functional look and places the scorpion (itself a lethal ‘find’ and ‘strike’ system) at the centre of a representative ‘Iron Division’ triangle. Scorpions are synonymous for their armour, claws, discretion and sting.

They are secretive beasts and the claws of the scorpion represent the ACRs (and STA) Recce elements that will find and fix its enemies and the sting in its tail represents the RA Offensive Support elements that will ‘strike’ to kill those enemies
